PHYSICS VS. VEDANTA

“Energy cannot be created or destroyed.

It can only be changed from one form to another.”

Albert Einstein

Thousands of years ago men and women wanted to understand the ground beneath them and the complex objects upon it as well as the air and sky.

They reasoned that silence was important because so much of this earth was silent. They also reasoned that in this silence with closed eyes they could literally look within themselves for answers.

In meditating extensively, all day and some of the night, they heard a sound. Because it was the same sound for all the meditators, they knew this sound was very important. They felt its origin within their body which then came forth heard by others being present.

Saying this primordial sound, the all-encompassing cosmic vibration, starts in the back of the mouth, fills the throat, and then becomes one final sound with closed lips which is like saying “mmmm.” The word is OM. Almost like pronouncing it: AH OH MMM.

The lower body is affected first, then the chest and finally the face. When written as AUM, A and O are merged and the sound becomes OH. It is believed that chanting this sound improves the body as well as the mind. “Thus when AUM is uttered, all the various parts of the vocal organ needed for uttering words are used. Therefore AUM is said to include all sounds.” 1)
